Colloids

Disclaimer

A colloidal suspension is any system in which some kind of particles move around in something continuous. The particles typically have sizes from nanometers up to micrometers.

Instead of “colloidal suspension” people often simply say “colloid”.

With such a general definition, it comes as no surprise that there are many examples: In milk, you have fat droplets in water; in paint, you have pigments in a solvent; dust in air forms a colloidal suspension; motor oil carries metal particles - and so on.

Some colloidal particles look like ellipoids.
